Samantha Outfit Analysis- Did you know she never wears her meet dress?

This is my Samantha Outfit Analysis. To let you know the editions I am working from-
Book One- Illustrated by Nancy Niles (pre-felicity)

Book Six- Illustrated by Luann Roberts (pre-felicity)

Samantha has A LOT of outfits. She rarely wears the same thing, even from one chapter to the next. She also has a lot of dresses that are very similar such as her Pink Dress w/ a Pink Stripe on the collar from the Birthday story and the Pink Dress w/ a blue stripe in the Summer story. An interesting thing that I found is she is never shown wearing her Meet dress and I was never able to identify her potrait dress, and the illustrated Samantha looks nothing like her potrait! I only found 1 outfit that was in 3 books, the nightgown, and 1 outfit that was in 2 books, the school outfit.

When compiling this, I did not use the black and white vinegettes because you could usually not tell the outfit from them. In the changes books she is seen many times in black and white in her cape, but I still chose not to record them. The cape is the only thing she consistently wears, but she also has a fur lined cape from the winter story.

I am not going to do an overall outfit analysis because as mentioned above the only outfits she wears in two books are the blue school dress and the nightgown.
I think it is pretty clear that Samantha likes the color blue and has a lot of clothes. She wears 7 outfits in the first book! The cover outfit that she wears most in it's book is the plaid cape, appearing in 6 illustrations. The one she wears the least is her meet dress, appearing in 0 illustrations!

I always wished Pleasant Company would have made more of the dresses Samantha wears in the books. I would rather have more of these "everyday" outfits that she wears in the books than all the special occasion dresses that they keep coming out with for her. And those boots! Why in the world has Sammie never had a pair of black button-up boots? It's practically all she wears in the books, original and new illustrations! It doesn't seem like it'd be too hard to do. Just take her middy dress boots and make them in all black!

And also, now that Nellie's here, I'd like to see them release some of the outfits she wears in the books, too. With a pair of black lace-up boots. [img]wink.gif[/img]

Well, unfortunately they probably won't be coming out with any of the outfits shown in the original illustrations, as beautiful as they are. [img]frown.gif[/img] I really like some of the outfits she wears in those! But maybe we'll get lucky and they'll make some of the dresses from her current books. I'd be content with the boots for now, though. [img]smile.gif[/img]
